On 28 November we held an event featuring senior speakers from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) and from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), aimed at sharing with our members across financial services, the ways in which leading public sector departments are approaching Diversity and Inclusion (D&I).
Philippa Bonay, Director of People and Business Services at the ONS and Craig Whiteley, Deputy Director, HR Operations at BEIS presented to an audience drawn from across FSCB member firms, focusing on the ways in particular that they are gathering and using data to improve D&I.
Both the ONS and BEIS were recognised earlier this year by the Civil Service Commissioners’ Mark of Excellence Awards for outstanding innovation and commitment in the recruitment of diverse candidates across all grades into the Civil Service. BEIS, the overall winner, pursued a set of approaches encompassing new recruitment assessment processes, D&I data visualisation dashboards and creating a senior talent pool; the ONS was highly commended in the category of “excellence in monitoring outcomes,” developing a data set that allows it to track its success in hiring employees who are from diverse groups and representative of local populations.
We are grateful to Philippa and Craig for their very valuable and informative presentations, which were recorded for anyone who was not able to attend in person.
